We spent part of the holidays in Kansas City with family, beginning our trip with a Christmas Eve visit to my grandma Martha. That evening, we enjoyed a scrumptious dinner at Lydia’s with Zach’s mom, Beth—ordering the pasta trio—before heading home to wrap a few last-minute gifts.

On Christmas morning, we had a wonderful time with Brian, Darlene, Jadzia, and Grandpa Don. We opened gifts, enjoyed veggie quiche, and played a board game called Obscurio. Later that evening, we celebrated with my parents, Isabel, Beth, and Grandma Ludgarde, sharing salmon for dinner and opening more gifts by the Christmas tree. Toward the end of our trip, we joined Jadzia at Chez Elle for a quick breakfast and then we explored Meadowbrook Park, an expansive and beautiful park near Prairie Village. We also celebrated my dad’s 60th birthday, complete with a scrumptious cherry chocolate cake baked by my sister.

After a wonderful time in Kansas City, we flew back to DC. Once home, we explored Fort Reno, visiting the fort itself and Point Reno—the highest point in Washington, DC—near Alice Deal Middle School.

Christmas Eve with Beth at Lydia's, and Italian restaurant in downtown Kansas City.

We had breakfast with Jadzia at Chez Elle and then did a small walk to see the Kansas City skyline.

The day after Christmas, we spent the day enjoying the warm weather at Meadowbrook Park.

Fort Reno is right near Alice Deal middle school.

Later in the week, at Rock Creek Park and Soapstone.
